Logo Name and design

UrbanScape as a name has two meanings, speaking to the different aspects of the garden. UrbanScape can be interpreted as an Urban (e)scape, meaning an escape from the built-up city in the form of a hub of plants greenery and wildlife.) Also, UrbanScape can be interpreted as an Urban Scape, with scape meaning ‘a long flower stalk coming directly from a root’ – according to Google. Therefore, the idea conjured up is that of a flower planting its roots firmly in between the paving slabs and growing therefrom, defying the odds. Very symbolic of the roots of the project and how Mulgrave Street Action Group has fought for and still works for the space. The logo includes the county flower for Merseyside, the sea holly (eryngiums). This purple-blue, prickly, unique flower still grows on the dunes of the Wirral and its status as the region’s flower is relatively unknown which is why we chose it to bring to light Liverpool’s own history and identity. The sea holly is Liverpool’s equivalent to the Scottish Thistle, let’s take pride in our flower!
