Today, a dream became reality, more specifically the dream of Khan Odita of making his community a better place. We’ve done it folks!
The community garden today was named UrbanScape, launching after some 4 weeks of work on site and 2 years of campaigning.
The tape was cut jointly by the Lord Mayor Roy Gladden and Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, the latter funding the project through Liverpool City Region’s Community Environment Fund, supported by funding by the National Lottery. Huge thanks to both organisations!
Among visitors for the private launch were MSAG Volunteers & Directors, MP Kim Johnson, Khan’s school principal, some of our amazing contractors, and media crews.
Visitors enjoyed taking their first look around the garden viewing stills of events on a timeline nailed to the back wall. Soon afterward a spoken word poem in the honour of UrbanScape was performed by Curtis Watt followed by the name unveiling and some nibbles.
Soon after, the garden was open for the public and people celebrated, taking photos with Khan and enjoying some food.
Once more an immense thank you to our funders and the contractors that aided the project, along with all those who have supported the project from the get go.
Here’s to what the future brings for UrbanScape!
